Day 2 - De vacanță la Roma!

Second day in Rome was a full historical sites visit. First up was a visit to the Colosseum. OOoooohhh!!! You have no idea how excited I was! It had been one of my dreams to visit the Colosseum, of course, along with many other wonders of the world. (:

Well then, the Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is the greatest amphiheatre of the Roman ampire, built of concrete and stone, is still standing and remaining as the main landmark in the centre of the city of Rome to date. It is a symbol of the imperial might and architectural ingenuity of the Roman empire that dominated the ancient Mediterranean world for centuries.

The nearly two thousand year old famous monument was built for the purpose of hosting violent gladiator games. Thousands of men and animals fought for their lives in the sandy area centuries ago. The historical gladiator fights were illustrated in many movies, such as the Spartacus for an instance.

Well, enough of the long winded history, let's get on to the photos!

Arch of Constantine

As per our tour guide, the Arch of Constantine (Italian: Arco di Costantino) is a triumphal arch in Rome, situated between the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill. It was built by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine I's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge on October 28, 312
Oh! I remembered a couple taking wedding photoshoot by the Arch of Constantine!
How blissful!

Ruins of House of the Vestal Virgins (Atrium Vesta)

Remains of Atrium Vesta

Reconstruction of the historical site in progress

The House of the Vestal Virgins was the residence of the Vestal Virgins, the high priestesses of the cult of Vesta. The cult of Vesta is very ancient, and the Vestal Virgins had their residence in the same location from the 6th century BCE to the end of the 4th century CE. It is located on the Forum Romanum, just behind the Temple of Vesta, between the Regia and the Palatine Hill. Here are some photos of what the House originally looked like:

I hope the restoration project could bring back its initial glory. Can't wait to see it happen!

After what felt like eternity under a super sunny morning, it's time to take a break! We dragged our exhausted body and feet away from the crowd, and off to Squisito Cook restaurant for lunch and re-hydrate~!

Our salad servings

After rested for about 2 hours, we were ready to wonder around the Roman streets and go SHOPPING!

Back to Trevi Fountain. Still that crowded.
Legend has it that whoever throws a coin into the pond will return to Rome!

Yea Yea YEA!! It's shopping time!!!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~

We were ready or more!! :P

On the way back for a god shower after a sweaty day

At night, we were swept away to a restaurant for a dinner and dance performance. I must say, I didn't enjoy the night at all. First, being the food issue. I do take cheese, but I find Roman cheese being "too pure", hence the smell was so unbearably heavy! I took about only 10 bites from that course dinner. As for the performance, it wasn't spectacular, but just what I need to take myself away from the food.
:P

:)

Singing, dancing and acrobatic performances

Final night stay in Rome
Time to pack and get ready to Vatican City tomorrow!

That's it for Day 2. Super tiring day.
Lights off.
Ciao~
